Membership Categories

Active Members - An optometrist who is licensed and practices optometry in the State of Connecticut, and whose dues and special assessments are timely received by this Association shall be entitled to be an Active Member of this Association.

Partial Practice Members - An optometrist who is licensed and practices optometry in the State of Connecticut sixteen or fewer hours per week, and whose dues and special assessments are timely received by this Association shall be entitled to be a Partial Practice Member of this Association.

Special Class Members - An optometrist employed or residing in the State of Connecticut, but not engaged in the industrial, clinical or private practice of optometry, and not in the federal services, and whose dues and special assessments are timely received by this Association shall be entitled to be a Special Class Member of this Association.

Affiliate Members - An optometrist who is licensed to practice optometry in the State of Connecticut, but whose principal place of practice is outside of Connecticut, or who is on active duty in the armed services of the United States Public Health Service or a full-time employee of the Veterans' Administration or other federal governmental entity, and who is an Active Member in good standing of an affiliated association of the American Optometric Association is eligible to be an Affiliate Member of this Association.

Student Members - A student of optometry in a school or college accredited by the Council on Optometric Education is eligible to be a Student Member of this Association. Such student membership may continue until such student has graduated and been licensed to practice. Such student membership shall not continue after the end of the calendar year in which the student member has been licensed to practice, and in no event shall continue for more than eighteen months after graduation.

Post-Graduate Members - An optometrist who is engaged full-time as a resident or a fellow in a program approved by the Council on Optometric Education or by a school or college of optometry which is accredited by the Council on Optometric Education shall be eligible for post-graduate membership in this Association. Such membership may continue until such optometrist has completed the post-graduate program and becomes eligible for another membership classification in this Association or an affiliated Association of the AOA.
